I retired after forty three years as a nurse. I worked 18 years as Dr. Charles Scott's primary nurse at Burlington Pediatrics and then 20 years as Dr. Paul Juengel's allergy nurse. Also worked at Memorial Hospital for 4 years. I was elected as a write in 2009 as a board member of Haw River Town Council. Then, I was elected twice as Haw River's Mayor, before being ask to take Craig Turner's seat on the commissioners, after he won the Judges seat in 2024. I volunteer at the schools as a lunch buddy, reading buddy and proctor for the EOG's. I also pull weeds, plant and put out new mulch at Haw River Elementary.
-
I have been interested in making people lives better and working for the veterans, elderly and children. I also love animals and every dog I have had, including my dog now, a german shepherd are rescues.
-
I would like for us to be financially sound for the future, keep taxes low, support the schools and keep our farm lands safe.
-
We need subdivision's ordinances that will prevent cluster homes and protect our farms. We need to bring our schools reading and math grades up. I would like to see us work together for the improvement of the county, instead of being separated by political affiliation.
-
We need to attract businesses that offer jobs and higher salaries. They would also bring tax dollars to the county. We have the best parks and hiking trails around and offer beautiful places to explore and spend time as a family. We need to continue to support our parks and recreational sites.
-
We need to develop a land use plan, to make sure the areas being developed are appropriate for the surrounding land.
-
I meet monthly with the superintendent and the board chair of ABSS and besides volunteering at the schools, I also have provided backpacks, composition books, notebook paper and pencils and color markers at the start of the school year.
-
I traveled to the General Assembly in 2023 three days a week, times three months and met with every member who would schedule an appointment with me. Because of my tenacity I received a $6.1 million grant to upgrade our fire department, firetrucks and fire gear for our volunteer fire department. I have established an excellent rapport with other elected officials both Federal, state and local.
-
I am available twenty four hours a day, seven days a week. I always answer my phone (unless I am in a meeting) and always return calls. I have met with more residents than I can count, at the local coffee shop and county office to discuss their concerns.
-
First and foremost, I care about people, it was my career. I listen to concerns and try to help with any problems they may be experiencing. Due to my contacts with other elected officials if I cannot help, I usually know who can.
